May 22, 2007 Graham Co. Kansas Started the day in WaKeeney, KS along I-70 awaiting a potentially good day. A few storms formed late in the afternoon and I intercepted one near Quinter, KS moving northeast slowly towards Trego and Graham counties.
The storm continued to organize and was quickly severe warned. The structure was quite exceptional and I wish I would have backed off some and taken some more structure shots.
Radar showed this tail-end charlie storm dominating with nothing to interrupt its flow from the south as it tracked into Graham Co.
Here I am sitting in Saint Peter, KS as the storm approaches. Notice the striations on the mesocyclone and the suspicious lowering. I would continue to work my way east and north on the good, but muddy, road network towards US 283 south Hill City where this supercell would end up dropping a tornado.
A small debris field can be seen between the poles...
Not the best contrast ( all pics are video grabs ) but still on the ground...
Continuing down the road, the tornado begins to lift...
